The History of the Department

In our country, postgraduate programs in nursing has been started as master degree in 1968 and PhD program in 1972 firstly under the Hacettepe University Institute of Health Sciences Nursing Program. The area of Obstetrics and Gynecological Nursing, which was previously a part of this program, started to carry out the master and doctorate programs within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecological Nursing with the decision of the Institute Board of Hacettepe University Institute of Health Sciences dated 2 October 1998.

The Infrastructure of the Department

• Training tools belonging to the department (A full body pregnancy simulator and numerous models and materials that can be used in applications related to women’s health)
• Classrooms, nursing skills laboratory and high fidelity simulation laboratory at Faculty of Nursing and standardized patient laboratory at Faculty of Medicine Department of Medical Education and Informatics are utilized for undergraduate and graduate students’ preclinical education.
• Clinics and outpatient clinics at Hacettepe University Adult Hospital Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, organizations that provide primary and secondary health care services which are subordinated to Ministry of Health, local government centers, cancer early diagnosis, screening and training centers which are subordinated to Ministry of Health Public Health Institution General Directorate of Cancer Control are utilized for clinical education.

Publications

Within five years, 20 papers had been published in journals indexed in SCI, SSCI and SCI-Expanded and 25 papers in Turkish peer-reviewed journals. There are published book chapters in Turkish and translated book chapters from English to Turkish by the faculties of department. There are several completed and ongoing research projects supported by Hacettepe University Scientific Research Project Coordinator, The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey and European Union.
