History
Psychiatric Nursing Department is one of the eight departments of Hacettepe University School of Nursing that were established according to the 27th November 1990 decision of The Executive Board of Turkish Higher Council.
Psychiatric Nursing Area that started to conduct psychiatric nursing master’s program in 1968 and PhD program in 1972 within the scope of Hacettepe University Institute of Helath Sciences under the name of Nursing Department was started to be conducted as an independent program within the scope of Hacettepe University Institute of Health Sciences since December 11, 1998.
Mission
Our department aims to train undergraduate and graduate nurses who adopt scientific thinking and norms in the field of mental health and psychiatric nursing as principles. In addition, it is aimed that our graduate nurses would be creative, questioner, productive and leader, have comprehensive knowledge of the national and international literature, can transfer the literature information to the practice, education and research in accordance with the needs of the individual, family and society.
Infrastructure
As well as classrooms and simulation laboratory within the faculty, the standardized patient laboratories in the Department of Medical Education and Informatics are used to develop effective communication skills and practical skills related to mental health and psychiatric nursing. And also psychiatry, surgery and internal clinics of hospitals, community mental health services, treatment/rehabilitation centers for alcohol-substance addiction, child monitoring centres, nursing homes, non-governmental organizations are among the areas where research and practice activities carried out.
1 associate professor, 2 assistant professors and 7 research assistants are on duty in the department.
Bachelor Courses
Courses delivered by Psychiatric Nursing Department under the Faculty of Nursing bachelor/undergraduate programme are HEM 421 Mental Health Psychiatric Nursing and HEM 130 Self Awareness and Communication Management. Besides the compulsory courses, HEM 117 Coping, HEM 140 Development and Emotional Intelligence, HEM 431 Child and Adolescent Mental Health, SEC 359 Elderly Mental Health, SEC 361 Psychosocial Care for Terminally Ill and Family, and SEC 461 Interpersonel Communication in Health Care Services are conducted as elective courses.
